WorldStrides, a global organization, is committed to educate and serve communities worldwide. Our commitment is fueled by the passion of our team members and partners to make experiential learning accessible, while also being socially, environmentally, and ethically responsible. Together, we accomplish this by investing in initiatives to promote inclusion, diversity, and sustainability.

As you plan for our first One WorldStides in-person conference, we encourage you to join us in creating a more sustainable world.

Pre-Arrival

  • Complete the additional registration details.  These details, including your pronouns, will be leveraged to print your name badge and we prefer to only print once to reduce waste

  • As part of our philanthropic efforts, we are hosting a book drive for the Maryland Book Bank.  We encourage you to bring a new or used book to donate to  help provide kids across Maryland to access to books.

  • Pack a reusable water bottle to use throughout your travels and the conference.

  • Select the digital key options while checking in to avoid having a plastic key card.  If you do require a key card, make sure to drop it off at hotel front desk or leave it on the desk in your room so it can be reused.

Choose Earth Practices While at the One WorldStrides Conference

  • WorldStrides is proud to host EDGE at the DC Hilton given Hilton’s Sustainability Promise: https://cr.hilton.com/.  Below are just a few ways both Hilton and all EDGE participants can partner to create a sustainable conference

    • No single-use plastic

    • Both the restaurant and banquet kitchen at the Washington Hilton use ORCA machines, which allow them to be zero-waste kitchens! All food waste is collected in the kitchen or in any front of house service area throughout the hotel, including banquets, and fed into these machines.

    • Your drink tickets are printed on recycled paper as well as recycled by the Hilton Washington after you hand them over to a staff member. So, remember to turn in all tickets.

    • Utilize sustainable housekeeping practices (turn off all lights and electronics each time you leave your room, reuse of linens for both nights, recycle as available)

    • Take advantage of the plant-based meal options

    • Utilize your reusable water bottle (remember to pack one) at the Conference

    • Utilize the available non-landfill waste options:

      • Recycling bins will be located throughout the conference

      • Name badge drop off bins will be located at the bus waiting area as well as the Green Alliance table.

      • TerraCycle bins (all-purpose, including your disposable face masks) will be located at the Green Alliance table!

The DEI Council and Green Alliance invite you to join us between 2pm-4pm on Monday, Jan 17 to:

  • Participate in our One WorldStrides Book Drive.  Drop off your new or used book that will be delivered to the Maryland Book Bank. The Maryland Book Bank is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating literacy in children from under-resourced communities. If possible, please donate a book that further uplifts our diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts.

  • Learn more ways to get involved in our communities by volunteering your time and resources by partnering with several different organizations.

  • All Employee Resource Group Members and Allies are invited to fellowship.  It’s our very first time meeting in-person and getting to know your fellow team members. Light refreshments will be provided.

Let us Connect!

While we are all together, let’s learn more about our social and environmental initiatives and have fun with some friendly challenges.

  • DEI Challenge

    • We challenge you to visit at least one Employee Resource Group (ERG) table to learn more about their mission and respective goals...you may even decide to join one!

    • While this is the first time many of us will meet each other in person, we challenge you to introduce yourself to at least five people across the organization you have never met before.  Think social bingo!

  • Sustainability Challenge

    • Are you familiar with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?   Last year we started aligning and measuring our CSR initiatives to the SDGs, so we encourage everyone to become more familiar with how WorldStrides is doing its part in achieving each SDG.  Please visit the EDGE app and prepare to have some fun in the SDG Scavenger Hunt.
